The Dog Pile Effect

I don’t know who the “you” is in this diary entry. Maybe it’s the system, maybe it’s America, or maybe it is, in fact, you. Try to understand this.

I remember a Jim Gaffigan stand up special when they asked him whats its like to have a 4th child. He said, imagine you’re in a pool drowning, and someone throws you a baby. The pile on is overwhelming.

Brianna Taylor’s murders still aren’t arrested. We were still getting our protests organized for Aubrey when Gorge Floyd was murdered. We still haven’t seen any real policy change in policing when Jacob Blake was shot 7 times in his back. And at protest, a white supremacist shot and killed 2 protestors with an Ar 15. All happening while a the coronavirus affects Black brown and indigenous communities at a greater number than anyone else.

I can do this same pile on for 2014. Eric gander was choked out less than a month before Mike brown was murdered. This is just in the past 10 years. Travon had skittles, tamir had a toy gun. These are not actually weapons. These boys were killed. Kyle Had an Ar 15 and literally killed 2 people and walked casually to the police. He’s crowd sourced 40k for his support. You don’t see a pattern? When the George Floyd sparked uprising started and y’all asked us if this moment felt different? Felt better? And we were very hesitant to say yes this moment was any different? Do you understand yet?

Can you see a pattern? There’s not even enough days in between murders to catch our breath, to process, To prep our children, to organize. It files like a pile on.

I don’t understand how one can not at least sympathize with our lack of patience. With our dismissal of your demand for ya to be civil while our body count rises. The body’s along with the pain continue to pile up, and you worried about some broken windows and stolen t shirts? Do you not feel the dead weight carried on our shoulders. Can you not hear our cries? Can you not see that our cause is just? Can you not see that our demands are reasonable? Black lives, at the very least matter. Stop killing us. And prosecute those who do. I don’t understand how that’s complicated.

It’s seems no amount of data, history or video is getting through to you. It seems you don’t speak up until a federal building burned or a sports ball game is cancelled.

I don’t know what to tell you to make you understand you that you should care about other people. I guess, take your time, i just hope this pile of bodies don’t get no bigger before you find humanity.
